Winchester is the place to be this summer to get a real flavour for Hampshire. A Taste of Winchester and Winchester Food Festival will shine a light on our many and diverse range of local producers, suppliers, retailers and servers of food and drink. Join us and taste for yourself 8 – 14 July.

A Taste of Winchester

A week-long celebration of food and drink across the Winchester District, taking place from Monday 8 to Saturday 13 July, brought to you by Hampshire Fare and Winchester City Council. Journey around the district to enjoy great food, drink, menus, experiences and offers.

Winchester Food Festival returns to the Cathedral Outer Close on 14 July, organised by Hampshire Fare and supported by Winchester BID and Winchester Cathedral. It’s a celebration of our finest local produce and is free to attend.

This is Chris and John from Hampshire Market Garde

This is Chris and John from Hampshire Market Garden. They grow delicious, seasonal vegetables and fruit on a fully organic farm in Hampshire. They deliver veg boxes to Hampshire residents and supply local shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants with the freshest of local produce.

They are back for a second time at Winchester Food Festival and are looking forward to meeting more veg lovers and introduce everyone to their fantastic produce.

Hampshire Market Garden started during lockdown in 2020 to help homebound residents get easier access to healthy fruit and veg. Their team has over 60 years of experience in growing veg, selling local produce and working in sustainable food. @hampshirevegbox scheme gets locally-grown produce to Hampshire homes, reducing transportation and packaging and therefore reducing emissions through the supply chain, unlike big supermarkets that have come to dominate food sales.

Buying local food also supports those that grow it and strengthens the local economy. And if all that wasn’t enough, local food is fresher, tastier and more nutritious as it is harvested at the time of peak ripeness to maximise flavour and nutritional content. Hampshire Market Garden encourage their community to get involved in supporting local growers, understanding the field-to-table process and of good food growing methods and practices. All their food is organic and they never use chemicals in the growing, washing or preparation stages of food production. They also use zero or very limited packaging and deliver to your door in their fully electric van!

It's totally BBQ season and Kingsworthy Foundry invite you to join them at Hogget & Boar on Saturday 13 July.

@kingsworthyfoundry have teamed up Big Green Egg, Hogget and Boar and Lainston House to bring you a taste sensation in celebration of Hampshire Fare’s ‘A Taste Of Winchester’

Executive Chef Phil Yeomans from @lainston_house will be working his magic on some amazing cuts from @hogget_and_boar_butchery on the ever popular @biggreenegguk charcoal grill from Kingsworthy Foundry.

There will be offers on the day on Big Green Egg Accessories and as one of the largest YETI retailers in the area, Kingsworthy Foundry will also be bringing along a display of YETI gear to tempt the discerning BBQ’er! Lainston House will be promoting their BBQ Masterclasses based in the garden of the beautiful 5 star hotel and Hogget and Boar will be showcasing everything from beautiful steaks, coffee and other produce from the local area.

Starts 10am at Hogget and Boar on London Road Kings Worthy.

We need your help! The wonderful Bella Crafts in Kings Walk are running some fabulous children’s activities during the Winchester Food Festival. These will be centred around sustainable grow your own and edible paintbrushes.

For their planing activity they need your recycling. We need donations of food packaging such as egg boxes, juice cartons, tubs and plastic bottles, yogurt pots, basically anything which can be turned into a vessel for planting.

You’ll find the collection boxes at Bella Crafts and also Winchester BID on Parchment Street.

The delicious English sparkling wine, Candover Bro

The delicious English sparkling wine, Candover Brook, is proving very popular, even with the cows!

@candoverbrook is a small family vineyard, nestled on the chalk slopes within the idyllic Candover Valley, home to the late Lord Sainsbury. Together with his sons, Mark and Julian, he planted the vines in 2011, their first harvest was 2018 and first release 2022.

A commitment to the environment, unique chalk stream habitat, and the community is deeply reflected in their distinctive award-winning English sparkling wines.

Small is beautiful, and Candover Brook have no intention to grow beyond their 5 hectares. Instead, Mark and Julian are focused on fulfilling their father’s dream to produce the best wines with a minimal footprint, working in harmony with nature and with the least possible intervention in the wine making process.

Their two sought after wines use the traditional method and a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes. The Candover Brook Brut NV is a delicate balance of freshness and richness and has picked up many awards including being named ‘Best English Sparkling (Classic blend) by the IWC. The Candover Brook Rosé NV is perfect for summer with its vivid pink hue and lively aromas of fresh strawberry, cranberry and toasted brioche.

This is Rod and Jenny from @longdog_brewery who will be at Winchester Food Festival on Sunday 14 July in Winchester Cathedral Outer Close.

Longdog Brewery are an independent family-run brewery which has been producing a wide range of hand-crafted, cask and bottle conditioned ales in Basingstoke, Hampshire since 2011.

Each beer is brewed to a unique recipe using traditional and wherever possible local, ingredients. Longdog Brewery also contains a shop and small tap room which is open Tuesday to Saturday, where you can relax with a flight of their different beers and gain advice from their friendly team.

Come and meet at the Festival and get some fine ales to take away and enjoy at home.
