All Hail the Ale at Winchester Food Festival

It might be called Winchester Food Festival but it’s also a celebration of Hampshire’s fine craft beer and cider makers.

The Flower Pots Brewery will be amongst the producers on Sunday 14 July at Winchester Cathedral. This award-winning independent brewery produces traditional cask ales, brewed at the source of the River Itchen in Cheriton. Beer was first brewed here in the 1850’s and they have produced craft ales and beers ever since. They are known for their in-depth knowledge and passion for their craft. Their brewers, Ash, Miki, Andy and Kirsty have years of experience of brewing the perfect pint.

Festival goers can buy from their range of bottled ales, bitters and porter. There will also be gift packs, glasses and merchandise available, and their experienced team can help buyers make the perfect choice.

Independent family-run brewery Longdog have produced a variety of hand-crafted, cask and bottle conditioned ales in Basingstoke since 2011. Each beer is brewed to a unique recipe using traditional and, wherever possible, local ingredients. Longdog are looking forward to showcasing their range at the Festival to buy and enjoy at home. These include favourites such as Bunny Chaser and Red Runner, a seasonal special, Royal Corgi and their award-winning Lamplight Porter.

Bottle conditioned beer is a live product and as close to draft beer as beer in a bottle gets. The fizz in most bottled beer is created using CO2, Longdog ales all contain live yeast, so they are basically a super food!

Hydes Cyder began as a family lockdown project and evolved into a second career and passion for husband-and-wife team Philip and Lucy Lundberg. Their first cider hit the market in September 2023, and garnered acclaim from both trade and consumers, praised for its delicate, authentic, and refreshing taste. They have recently launched a premium, handcrafted cider, which they will bring to the Festival. Born from an abundant harvest of premium apples from the Herriard Estate and other local orchards, their cider is a testament to the rich agricultural heritage of Hampshire. Hydes Cyder is fermented using the time-honoured methods, blended and freshly bottled, with distribution in glass bottles and reusable steel kegs to ensure an authentic, sustainable cider experience. Why not pick up a bottle or two at the Festival and chill in the fridge at home or pour over ice.
