New Forest Shortbread
I started selling my All Butter Shortbread because family and friends encouraged me to do so. The homemade buttery shortbread has always been a favourite of mine as a gift for all occasions. It ranks with chocolates and flowers as a go-to gift for a thank you, a house warming present, birthdays, anniversaries or just I love you gift.
As the demand grew at markets and fairs I added flavours as I was asked for them, or as with the Rosemary flavour, as I came across them.
Rosemary flavoured New Forest Shortbread came about when I learnt that Rosemary can be used to treat memory loss and is the symbol of remembrance.
After the usual trial and error attempts the family had to endure, I settled on a recipe which has a surprisingly delightful balance of flavour; is good to eat on its own, and which goes really well with a soft blue cheese or hard cheddar.
Winning 2 stars in the Great Taste Awards really brought this all butter shortbread to people’s attention and is now one of our best selling flavours.
Earl Grey came about as a collaboration with The New Forest Tea Company. Winning 1 star in the Great Taste Awards gives this lovely flavoured tea the accolade it truly deserves. Blended with bergamot and beautiful blue cornflower petals, the flavour is often appreciated by people who find a hot cup of Earl Grey tea overwhelming, my husband being one of them.
Original All Butter New Forest Shortbread was the first to win a Great Taste Award in 2022. It is by far our best seller and made with only three ingredients. It is exactly like my Nana used to make. It smells and tastes of butter and is delicious.
All three will be available to buy at the Winchester Food Festival along with my other flavoured shortbread Chocolate, Lemon, Lavender, Raspberry and Coffee.
Come along to try all these tasty flavours. The joy of shopping at a food festival is the opportunity it provides to try and experience the produce before you buy them.
We will also be selling our NEW snack packs of 2 pieces in a packet, a new line for us. The packets will each support one of the images and story about the things you might see on a walk in the New Forest which have previously been found inside the boxes of our New Forest Shortbread. It’s all part of enjoying the New Forest and learning what it has to offer the visitor and its residents.
All Butter New Forest Shortbread is made with love by me and ladies who live in the forest and love our way of life. I really enjoy every aspect of the business; making, baking, packing and selling New Forest Shortbread is about being part of a very special place.
